Sundog | Midwinter Collection

The view one clear, crisp day in December was breathtaking, not just because it was literally so cold that it stole your breath if you dared to breathe in too vigorously without your mouth covered. But because of a natural atmospheric phenomenon called parhelia.

A sort of halo of light and colour around the sun created by light refracting through ice crystals in the atmosphere. I marvelled at this beautifully dangerous deciding that I would challenge myself to take inspiration from this instead of just grumbling about how cold it was and set out to make a soap inspired by sundogs.

It was very much a "trust the process" project as I figured out how best to capture the idea.

Doubting myself the whole way through, in the end I was pleasantly surprised to make the final slice to reveal a beautiful white centre ringed with hues of pink and orange on a base of indigo.

Scented with an exhilarating blend of tangerine, fir needle, and eucalyptus essential oils.
